Reports indicate that Nicolo Barella has become Manchester City's primary target in the event of Bernardo Silva's departure from the club this summer. With Ilkay Gundogan having already left for Barcelona after an impressive treble-winning season, Silva's future with City has been uncertain in recent weeks.

To address the potential gaps left by Gundogan and Silva, City has brought in Mateo Kovacic. However, should Silva follow Gundogan's path and leave, the club is expected to venture into the transfer market once again to secure another midfielder. TuttoMercatoWeb suggests that Barella is highly admired by City and might be available for transfer from Inter Milan, possibly following Andre Onana, who recently joined Manchester United.

City's manager, Pep Guardiola, was impressed with Barella's performance when they faced Inter Milan in the Champions League final, where City emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline. Guardiola is reportedly keen on bringing Barella to the club if they decide to pursue a midfielder in the transfer market.

Despite narrowly missing out on Champions League glory, Barella has an impressive track record. At Inter Milan, he has secured the Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles. Moreover, he played a crucial role in Italy's triumph at Euro 2020, starting in every knockout stage match.

However, the potential transfer could face challenges as Inter Milan might demand a fee similar to what Arsenal paid for Declan Rice. This could be a stumbling block for City, especially considering their ongoing negotiations for Josko Gvardiol, who may also come at a significant cost.

While Barella has been linked with Liverpool earlier in the summer, interest from Anfield has cooled following their acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva's future has been heavily linked with moves to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, indicating that the transfer market for midfielders is likely to be dynamic and competitive this summer.

Barella for Silva doesn't seem like an ideal replacement to me. Dani Olmo would be just perfect
