Noni Madueke is confident that "everything is going to be fine" when Enzo Fernandez returns to Chelsea's squad, despite the ongoing disciplinary issues related to allegations of racism.
Fernandez is set to rejoin the team on July 29, following accusations from teammate Wesley Fofana about Fernandez's involvement in a controversial song with racist undertones.
The French Football Federation expressed its shock at the song, which questions the heritage of France's black and mixed-race players, sung by Argentina's team after their Copa America win.
Fernandez has apologized both privately to his Chelsea teammates and publicly, and the club has started its own disciplinary review. FIFA has also launched an investigation.
Madueke, who started in Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Wrexham in their first pre-season match under new manager Enzo Maresca, believes the team will handle the matter internally. "That's something that's between us players," said the 22-year-old winger. "Enzo is going to come back and join his team again, and everything is going to be fine."
Maresca has already addressed the issue during Chelsea's pre-season tour, stating that the situation is "clear and clarified" and assured that there would be "no problems at all."
Chelsea captain Reece James has indicated he’s ready to mediate if needed as the team continues their U.S. tour, with upcoming matches against Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
Madueke, who typically plays on the right wing, also shared his focus on adapting to Maresca’s new style of play. "As a winger, you need to stay high and wide and be patient," he explained. "You might not get many touches in the lower areas, but it’s about waiting for that perfect moment to make an impact."
