Kalvin Phillips is on the verge of joining Ipswich Town on a season-long loan From Manchester City. Despite his £45m transfer from Leeds two years ago, Phillips has struggled to secure a spot in City's starting lineup.
In an effort to boost his chances of making England's Euro 2024 squad, Phillips joined West Ham on loan for the second half of last season. Unfortunately, a mix of poor form and injuries hindered his progress, and he missed out on a spot in Gareth Southgate's team.
Interestingly, the loan deal with Ipswich doesn't include an option to buy, suggesting City still sees potential in Phillips. However, his absence from the starting lineup in Saturday's Community Shield win against Manchester United, despite Rodri's unavailability, raises questions about his future at the club.
