Inter secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Juventus in the highly anticipated Derby d'Italia, stretching their lead at the summit of the Serie A table to four points.

The decisive moment arrived in the closing stages of the first half when Juventus defender Federico Gatti inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net.

Despite a spirited attempt to make amends in the second half, with Gatti unleashing a powerful effort narrowly wide, Juventus couldn't breach Inter's defense. Simone Inzaghi's men held firm to clinch a vital victory against their title contenders, dealing Juventus their second league defeat of the season.

In the opening exchanges, Inter took the initiative, pressing forward against a determined Juventus side. The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Gatti's own goal resulted from Nicolo Barella's cross, which eluded several attempts to clear it.

After the break, Inter continued their offensive efforts, with Benjamin Pavard and Hakan Calhanoglu coming close to extending the lead, the latter striking the woodwork with a well-taken half-volley.

Juventus attempted to rally, introducing Timothy Weah and Federico Chiesa from the bench, but they struggled to find a breakthrough. Wojciech Szczesny, Juventus' goalkeeper, made several crucial saves, including denying Marko Arnautovic from close range.

Despite Juventus' efforts, Inter's solid defense held firm, limiting them to few clear opportunities. With this win, Inter widened the gap at the top of the table to four points.

Having suffered their first league defeat since September, Juventus now find themselves trailing Inter by four points, with Inter also having a game in hand.

Next up, Inter will face a tough away fixture against Roma, while Juventus will aim to bounce back when they take on Udinese in their quest to revive their Scudetto aspirations.
