Conmebol has launched an investigation into the "unacceptable" altercation involving Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez and Colombia fans during the Copa America in the United States.

Liverpool's Nunez was caught in a clash with spectators following Colombia's 1-0 win in Wednesday's semi-final in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident took place in a section of the stadium where many Uruguay players' families were seated.

"This kind of incident, where passion turns into violence, is unacceptable," stated Conmebol, the governing body for South American football. "With the Copa America final approaching, we want to make it clear that no actions tarnishing this global football celebration will be tolerated."

Conmebol emphasized their intent to "understand the sequence of events" leading to the altercation.

The disorder erupted after Colombia's victory, which secured them a spot in the final against Argentina on Sunday. Nunez was seen climbing the railings and entering the crowded stands.

Uruguay captain Jose Maria Gimenez commented, "There was no police presence, and we had to defend our families. This incident was caused by a few individuals who had too much to drink and couldn't handle it."

After the situation calmed down, Nunez was seen hugging his son on the pitch. The striker has not yet made any public comments about the incident.
