Reports have confirmed that Barcelona is interested in signing Mason Greenwood in a £40 million deal next summer and is even willing to offer him the prestigious number 10 shirt.

Greenwood, who was informed by Manchester United that his time at the club was over, moved to Getafe on loan and has performed well, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 15 appearances.

As things stand, Greenwood is set to return to Manchester United at the end of the 2023-24 season due to his contract, which runs until June 2025. Although there have been suggestions that United might reconsider and integrate him back into the first-team, it is considered unlikely.

Getafe has reportedly expressed their willingness to pay £40 million to secure Greenwood on a permanent basis next summer. However, recent reports suggest that Barcelona has taken the lead in pursuing the 22-year-old, considering him a top target for 2024.

According to The Sun, Barcelona, under manager Xavi, is prepared to pay £40 million for Greenwood and is even offering him the opportunity to wear Lionel Messi's iconic number 10 shirt. Messi wore the renowned jersey from 2008 to 2021, after which it was passed on to Ansu Fati, currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion.

While Real Madrid is also reportedly interested in Greenwood, Barcelona is hoping that the allure of donning the iconic number 10 shirt at Camp Nou will give them the advantage in securing the deal.
