Alexander Isak is reportedly considering his future at Newcastle United, with the striker understood to be open to a potential move away from the club this summer. He was notably left out of Newcastle’s pre-season squad for their tour of Asia, officially due to a minor thigh injury. However, his absence has sparked fresh speculation about whether he will remain at the club.
Newcastle named a 30-man squad for their matches in Singapore and South Korea, but Isak was not among them. The club stated his omission was precautionary, citing a slight injury concern. However, some of Europe’s top clubs are said to be monitoring his situation closely, with the feeling that the Swedish international may be looking for a new challenge.
Liverpool remain interested in the 25-year-old forward, despite recently agreeing a deal for Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. A source told BBC Sport that Isak is still on Liverpool’s radar.
Interestingly, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe had told reporters over the weekend that Isak would "absolutely" be travelling with the team. His absence from the squad has therefore raised eyebrows, especially among fans who fear he could be on his way out.
Isak was Newcastle’s top scorer last season, with an impressive 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. Yet, he didn’t feature in the Magpies’ first pre-season match, a heavy 4–0 defeat to Celtic.
Newcastle maintain they have no intention of selling Isak and are reportedly holding firm on a steep £130 million valuation. With three years left on his contract and the club financially secure under the ownership of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, they’re under no pressure to cash in.
Still, uncertainty lingers. Fans are questioning whether the “minor injury” is masking deeper issues or if the striker’s head has been turned by interest from bigger clubs. Arsenal had shown interest earlier in the summer but are now focused on signing Viktor Gyokeres, while Manchester City are unlikely to make a move with Erling Haaland already in place.
Supporters have voiced concerns online, wondering why Newcastle would leave their star striker behind for commercial matches if the injury truly is minor. Others are calling for clarity, urging Isak or the club to confirm where things really stand.
For now, Isak remains a Newcastle player. But until he publicly reaffirms his commitment or the transfer window closes, the speculation is likely to continue.
