It was supposed to be the season after which everything would change. Tottenham were playing their first European Cup final since the 1983/84 season and it was in that season that Spurs won their last trophy. Yes, the club’s last trophy dates back 39 years!

Unfortunately for Tottenham, the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season wasn’t a turning point as they haven’t appeared in any finals since then and haven’t even come close to a league title.

The goalkeeper at the time was Hugo Lloris, who, although still listed as a player at the club, was given permission to look for a new deal earlier this summer.

The defensive back four at the time was Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose. Trippier is now at rival Newcastle, where he took a detour via Atlético Madrid. The Belgian stoppers are already plying their trade in their native country and have handed over the scepter at stopper to a new generation. And Rose? He defended the colours of Watford last season, but his contract has expired and he is currently without a contract.

The defensive midfielders were Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks, who moved to second-tier Leicester this season, while the French fighter defends the colours of Nantes in Ligue 1. Half the team is gone and we still haven’t found anyone who remembers the final.

The offensive central midfielder was played by Christian Eriksen, who is currently playing one of the important roles at Manchester United. Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son were running on the wings.

The Alli story ran through the media a few weeks ago. However, his employer is currently Everton, and we come to the first player we can make a pipe as a participant in the final duel with Liverpool, namely Son. The last man in the starting line-up was Harry Kane, who transferred to Bayern Munich a few days ago, leaving north London where he had been for many years.

Can we find anyone else meeting our parameters on the bench? Michel Vorm has already retired. Paulo Gazzaniga is at Girona in Spain. Davinson Sánchez could be another player who remembers the duel. Unfortunately, he is on his way to Spartak Moscow in Russia.

The other substitutes were Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth. The Englishman has moved to Southampton and the Argentinian central defender or stopper is at Villareal in Spain. Serge Aurier is also no longer at Tottenham but at Nottingham Forrest.

We have searched the bench unsuccessfully so far. Erik Lamela will not bring any luck either. The Argentine is currently defending the colours of Sevilla, with whom he won the Europa League at the end of May. Victor Wanyama, on the other hand, is finishing his career in Montreal, Canada.

Now we can move on to the players who have made it to the final from the bench. Lucas Moura and Fernando Llorente. The Brazilian chic is finishing his career in Sao Paulo and Llorente has even retired. Erik Dier entered the final in the 74th minute and is still a Spurs player at the moment.

Of all the players and substitutes, there are currently only 2 players remembering the lost final. The other two are still at the club, but one or even almost two legs are already gone.

I remembered this game like yesterday. Spurs went into the final, feeling very confident and bullish after they had beaten Ajax Amsterdam in dramatic fashion, but they also forgot Liverpool had also performed a MIRACLE against Barcelona.
