Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has included Barcelona's Fermin Lopez and Real Betis' Ayoze Perez in his preliminary squad for this summer's European Championship. This marks the first time both players have been called up to La Roja, and they are eager to make the final cut for Euro 2024.

De la Fuente's initial squad consists of 29 players, which will need to be reduced by three by the June 7 deadline. Among the selected are three Premier League players: David Raya, currently on loan at Arsenal from Brentford; Chelsea's Marc Cucurella; and Manchester City's Rodri.

Notably absent from the squad are Aston Villa's Pau Torres, Tottenham Hotspur's Pedro Porro, and Marco Asensio. Barcelona's Gavi is also out due to injury. However, Barcelona's teenage sensations Lamine Yamal, 16, and Pau Cubarsi, 17, are included and could play significant roles this summer. Unai Simon is expected to be the starting goalkeeper at Euro 2024, while Dani Carvajal, Aymeric Laporte, and Nacho are key defensive inclusions.

Athletic Bilbao's Dani Vivian is in the squad due to his impressive form this season, and Girona's Aleix Garcia has earned his spot with strong performances during the 2023-24 campaign, while Villarreal's Alex Baena hopes to add to his two international caps during the tournament, and Ayoze Perez is a surprise inclusion in the attack.

Real Madrid's Joselu, who has scored 17 times this season, adds another attacking option. However, there are concerns about the overall goal-scoring potential of the squad, with Alvaro Morata leading with 34 goals in 71 caps.

Ferran Torres follows with 18 goals, while Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal have eight and seven respectively. Nico Williams, Joselu, Yamal, and Perez collectively have just nine international goals.

Rodri is the top-scoring midfielder with three goals, and 38-year-old Jesus Navas is the highest-scoring defender with five goals. Navas aims to add to his 52 international caps, but Dani Carvajal is expected to be the first-choice right-back if available.

Spain will warm up for the tournament with friendlies against Andorra and Northern Ireland before starting their Euro 2024 campaign against Croatia on June 15. Italy and Albania are also in their group.
