Spain continued their remarkable run in international football by narrowly defeating France to win Olympic men's gold at Paris 2024. The match was a nail-biter, with the hosts taking an early lead before Spain roared back, going up 3-1 by halftime.

France staged an incredible second-half comeback to force extra time, but Spain's substitute Sergio Camello kept his cool under immense pressure, scoring twice in extra time to seal the victory.

Camello's goals ignited wild celebrations among the Spanish players, who swarmed the Rayo Vallecano forward in joy. This triumph marks Spain's first Olympic gold in men's football since 1992 and adds to their recent string of successes.

Just over a month ago, Spain won the men's European Championship by defeating England in the final. Additionally, their men's under-19 team claimed the European title last month, and their women's team lifted the World Cup last year.

For the French, the defeat was bittersweet. While initially deflated, the team eventually found a more celebratory mood as they received their silver medals. "It wasn't easy to build this team up, but I'm proud of the work we did," said coach Thierry Henry.

With France unable to secure the gold, Great Britain retained fifth place in the Paris 2024 medal table. Both countries have won 14 gold medals, but Team GB edges ahead with 57 overall medals, one more than France.
