While Real Madrid hasn’t quite hit their peak form this season, that’s a worrying thought for their opponents. They remain unbeaten and have secured six wins out of eight matches across all competitions.
Last month, Ancelotti’s squad claimed the UEFA Super Cup, and they kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Stuttgart last week.
In La Liga, Los Blancos have garnered 14 points from six matches, with four wins and two draws, placing them second in the standings—just one point behind Barcelona, who has a game in hand.
After drawing two of their first three league matches, Madrid has found their rhythm, winning their last three against Real Betis, Real Sociedad, and Espanyol, scoring eight goals in the process.
Next weekend, they face Atletico Madrid before heading to France to play Lille in their second Champions League match in early October.
Kylian Mbappe is settling in at the Bernabeu, already tallying six goals and one assist in eight appearances. It won’t be long before the 25-year-old hits his stride.
On the other hand, Alaves had a successful return to the top flight last season, finishing in 10th place, and they’ve continued to impress this year.
So far, Alaves has won three, drawn one, and lost two of their six matches, accumulating 10 points and sitting in fifth place—just four points behind Real Madrid.
With no European distractions, all of Alaves’ focus has been on La Liga. They’ve won three of their last four matches, including victories over Real Sociedad and Las Palmas, and they bounced back against Sevilla after a loss to Espanyol.
Last season, Alaves faced a tough defeat to Madrid, losing 5-0 in their last meeting. However, they pulled off a memorable 2-1 win at the Bernabeu back in November 2020.
INJURIES & SUSPENSIONS
Real Madrid will be missing four players on Tuesday: Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, David Alaba, and Brahim Diaz, all sidelined due to injuries.
Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal both had to leave the match against Espanyol because of injuries. Bellingham has a recurring shoulder issue, while Carvajal picked up a minor knock. Fortunately, neither injury is serious, but both are unlikely to play in this upcoming match.
Carlo Ancelotti is expected to bring back Vinicius Junior, Antonio Rudiger, and Ferland Mendy into the lineup. There’s also a chance Lucas Vazquez will start at right-back.
Endrick, the 18-year-old forward, has scored twice from the bench since joining the team and is being considered for his first start on Tuesday night. For Alaves, Jesus Owono is still out injured, but the rest of the squad is in great shape. They’re likely to stick with the same lineup that won against Sevilla.
Carlos Vicente and Toni Martinez have each netted two goals this season and are expected to continue in the attack, alongside Carlos Martin. In midfield, Joan Jordan and Ander Guevara will likely reprise their roles, while Manu Sanchez is set to make his sixth league appearance of the season at left-back.
