Klopp's comments were made after his team's dramatic 4-3 victory, during which they surrendered a 3-0 lead before ultimately prevailing. The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has refuted Klopp's claims, stating that they have reviewed the audio of the interaction between Tierney and Klopp and found no evidence to support Klopp's allegations.
"PGMOL is aware of the comments made by Jurgen Klopp after his side's fixture with Tottenham Hotspur," the statement read.
"Match officials in the Premier League are recorded in all games via a communications system and having fully reviewed the audio of referee Paul Tierney from today's fixture, we can confirm he acted in a professional manner throughout, including when issuing the caution to the Liverpool manager so, therefore, we strongly refute any suggestion that Tierney's actions were improper."
Referee Paul Tierney was at the center of two contentious decisions during Liverpool's match against Tottenham Hotspur. The first was when he chose not to penalize Oliver Skipp for a tough tackle on Luis Diaz, who had recently returned from knee surgery. The second involved Diogo Jota, who kicked Skipp in the head, drawing blood with his studs.
Despite protests from Tottenham's interim manager Ryan Mason, Tierney and VAR official David Coote decided not to take any further action against Jota. Liverpool's victory over Tottenham was their fourth straight Premier League win, though they remain seven points behind Manchester United for a Champions League spot, having played one more game. Next up, Fulham will visit Anfield for a Premier League clash on Wednesday.
