Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has announced his retirement from international football. Neuer, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, earned 124 caps during his career. His final appearance for the national team was last month in their Euro 2024 quarter-final loss to Spain.

The 38-year-old Bayern Munich star made his debut for Germany in 2009 and played in eight major tournaments. Neuer was a key player in Germany's World Cup victory over Argentina in 2014 and was named team captain ahead of the 2018 World Cup, a position he held until Ilkay Gundogan took over earlier this year.

This week, Gundogan also announced his retirement from international football, following midfielder Toni Kroos, who retired after Germany's campaign in the Euros.

Despite stepping down from the national team, Neuer will continue his club career, having signed a new contract last year to stay with Bayern Munich until 2025.
