Manchester United reportedly see Joao Neves as their top choice to replace Casemiro this summer, as the Brazilian midfielder is widely expected to leave Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and had an impressive first season. However, his performances last term drew criticism. Despite having two years left on his contract, with an option for an additional year, Casemiro was left out of the starting lineup for the FA Cup final and is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are reportedly leading the chase for the 32-year-old, who is United's highest earner with a weekly salary of around £350,000.

According to United Update, Manchester United are targeting Benfica's Joao Neves as Casemiro's replacement. The Portuguese international could potentially pair up with Kobbie Mainoo in the Red Devils' midfield. Neves's future is currently a hot topic, with Manchester City also interested in signing the 19-year-old this summer.

Portugal's head coach Roberto Martinez has confidently stated that Neves "100%" has the quality to play for a club like Manchester United. However, Neves's international teammate Bernardo Silva has encouraged him to join Manchester City instead.

Neves has a €120 million (£101.9 million) release clause in his contract with Benfica, giving the Portuguese club a strong negotiating position. The teenager is currently with the Portugal squad preparing for Euro 2024 and is expected to play a key role for his country in the tournament.
