Manchester City are reportedly ready to offer Phil Foden a record-breaking contract to fend off interest from Real Madrid. Foden, who turned 24 last month, has already made 270 appearances for City.

Having come through City's academy, Foden has become a key player for the first team, earning the club's Player of the Year award for his stellar performances during the 2023-24 season. He scored 19 goals and provided eight assists in 35 Premier League games, helping Pep Guardiola's side win a record fourth consecutive league title. Overall, he finished the season with 27 goals and 12 assists in 53 matches across all competitions.

According to The Sun, City are prepared to make Foden the highest-paid British player in history with a new contract. While his current deal runs until 2027, City want to secure his long-term future amid interest from Real Madrid, the newly-crowned European Champions.

Foden currently earns around £200,000 a week, but City are willing to raise his salary to around £370,000. This would put him in the same pay bracket as the club’s top earners, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland. The proposed deal would extend Foden’s stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.

City do not foresee any issues in the negotiations and aim to finalize the new deal before the 2024-25 season. Meanwhile, they are allowing Foden to concentrate on Euro 2024 after he was included in Gareth Southgate's final 26-man squad.

With 34 caps for England, Foden will be crucial to the team’s success in the tournament in Germany. He is expected to start in England’s opener against Serbia on June 16, followed by group stage matches against Denmark and Slovenia.
