Reports suggest that Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich has emerged as a potential replacement for Kyle Walker at Manchester City. It appears increasingly likely that Walker will be leaving City, having verbally agreed to join Bayern this summer.

During his six seasons at the Etihad Stadium, the 33-year-old Walker has made 254 appearances across all competitions and won 14 trophies, including five Premier League titles. He played a key role in Pep Guardiola's team, featuring 39 times in the historic treble-winning campaign of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League last season.

However, Walker's position in the starting lineup came under threat towards the end of the 2022-23 season. Guardiola altered the formation to a back three after the World Cup break, and Walker's suitability for the inverted full-back role was questioned. John Stones excelled in that position during the latter part of the previous season.

Walker is in the final year of his contract and desires regular game time in order to secure a place in the England squad for Euro 2024. With his preference for a new challenge at Bayern under Thomas Tuchel apparent, Manchester City has identified Pavard as their primary target for the right-back position. Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms that City and Bayern will discuss a potential deal involving Pavard as part of negotiations for Walker's transfer. Additionally, Florian Plettenberg, a reporter from Sky Deutschland, suggests that City is a serious option for Pavard, who is highly regarded by former Bayern manager Guardiola.

However, Manchester City could face competition from Manchester United and Juventus for Pavard's signature, as both clubs have reportedly held talks with the defender, valued at £25.7 million. Pavard, capable of playing as a right-back or centre-back, has amassed 162 appearances for Bayern since joining from Stuttgart in 2019, winning 11 trophies, including four Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

Despite his successes, the 27-year-old Pavard has expressed his desire to leave Bayern this summer, as he enters the final year of his contract. Bayern Munich has allegedly listed him among six players available for transfer, as they aim to raise funds for their pursuit of their primary target, Harry Kane.

Manchester City has already secured the signing of midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer and hopes to finalize a deal for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
