The two-time Golden Boot winner is currently on the terms he signed when joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, with three years remaining on that deal. However, rumors of a move to La Liga have been circulating for some time.
Real Madrid have long been linked with Haaland, and Barcelona have also been mentioned as potential suitors, possibly as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco recently addressed these reports.
Despite this, City are reportedly not too worried about Haaland’s future. According to The Mirror, they’re optimistic about finalizing a new agreement soon.
The proposed deal would keep Haaland at the Etihad until 2029 and significantly boost his weekly salary to £500,000, making him the Premier League’s highest-paid player, surpassing Kevin De Bruyne's £400,000-a-week earnings. This would also place Haaland among Europe’s top earners, just behind Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, who earns £600,000 a week.
Recent negotiations reportedly took place in Haaland’s native Norway, involving his family, his agent Rafaela Pimenta, and City officials. Haaland’s camp has reportedly given initial approval to the new terms.
However, a key disagreement remains over Haaland’s release clause. His current contract includes a £150 million clause, which City wants to eliminate in the new deal. In contrast, Haaland’s representatives insist on keeping a release clause but are open to raising it to £200 million.
If agreed upon, the new clause would make Haaland the most expensive player in football history, surpassing the €220 million (£185.5 million) Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona for Neymar in 2017.
