Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has identified Gvardiol as his primary target for the summer transfer window, following the recent signing of fellow Croatia international Mateo Kovacic. Despite Leipzig's initial refusal of City's €75m (£64.1m) offer with add-ons, the English club continued their pursuit, and a breakthrough has been achieved.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Man City has now reached a complete agreement with Leipzig to secure Gvardiol's signature. The Croatian player has also undergone part of his medical examination on Wednesday, bringing the move to the Etihad Stadium close to its finalization.
Personal terms have already been agreed upon between Manchester City and Gvardiol, which could make him the most expensive defender in the world, surpassing the £80m spent by Manchester United on Harry Maguire in 2019.
Gvardiol is set to become the third player from RB Leipzig to make the move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League this summer, following Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea and Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool.
