The Houston Rockets are aiming for a "major upgrade" to their roster for the 2024-25 season. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets "want to trade for Kevin Durant." This development follows a deal between the Rockets and the Brooklyn Nets, which occurred after the Nets reportedly acquired Mikal Bridges from the New York Knicks.

As part of their deal, Houston will return the Nets’ 2026 first-round pick in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick from the Phoenix Suns. Additionally, the Rockets will acquire the right to swap their 2025 first-round pick with Oklahoma City for the Suns’ 2025 first-round pick.

Wojnarowski elaborated on the significance of Houston obtaining these picks from Phoenix, highlighting their strategic importance in the Rockets' pursuit of Durant.
"Houston wants to trade for Kevin Durant and that becomes far easier if they can return the Suns' picks that they gave up in the Durant deal to the Nets," Wojnarowski reported.
"Suns have said they're keeping Durant for now, but that could change next season. But now, Houston has the picks to make the Suns whole again."

Woj also suggested that Houston could look elsewhere with the picks they own.
"As intrigued as the Rockets have been about Durant, they're determined to use the Suns picks to be aggressive on deals elsewhere now," said Wojnarowski.

"Phoenix has made it clear that they want to run it back with this group, and Houston is seeking a major upgrade now."
