Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was given a standing ovation at his former club Tottenham as the German side edged out Spurs 3-2 in a thrilling pre-season friendly.

Kane, who joined Bayern last summer in a deal worth £86.4m plus add-ons, came on as a late substitute and was applauded by the Tottenham faithful. He took a solo lap of honour at the end of the game, basking in the adoration of the crowd.

The England captain admitted he "probably shouldn't have been playing" after only returning to training on Friday following England's Euro 2024 campaign. However, he was determined to make an appearance, saying: "I was always going to play 10 minutes, and it was good."

Kane expressed his gratitude to the Tottenham fans, saying: "Everything was really rushed through last year, so we didn't have a chance to say goodbye. But it was a great way to say thank you to all of them. The reception I got was amazing."

Kane and Eric Dier, who also left Tottenham for Bayern, were presented with gifts by Spurs prior to kick-off in recognition of their services to the club.

The game saw Tottenham introduce new signings Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, and Lucas Bergvall to their fans before kick-off. Dejan Kulusevski put Spurs ahead, but Bayern responded with goals from Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry, and Thomas Muller to take a 3-1 lead. Kulusevski grabbed a second to reduce the deficit, but Bayern held on for the win.

In another friendly, Bournemouth secured a 3-2 victory over Girona. Justin Kluivert scored a penalty to put the Cherries ahead, but Christian Stuani and Joel Roca put Girona in front. Luis Sinisterra equalized for Bournemouth before Daniel Jebbison sealed the win with a close-range finish
