Reports suggest that Ilkay Gundogan will reject a summer transfer to Barcelona and instead sign a fresh contract with Manchester City. There has been widespread speculation about the 32-year-old's future at the Etihad Stadium, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of next month.

Gundogan has been a key figure in Pep Guardiola's team for the past seven seasons, contributing 58 goals and 40 assists in 301 appearances across all competitions. During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the German midfielder has won 12 trophies and will now lift his first as club captain, following Arsenal's defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, securing Manchester City's third consecutive Premier League title.

Negotiations between Gundogan and Manchester City over a contract extension were reportedly at a standstill in recent weeks, as the midfielder sought a longer deal than the one-year extension offered to him. Barcelona has been strongly linked with a move for Gundogan on a free transfer and is said to be ready to present him with a two-year contract. Talks have allegedly taken place between Barcelona and the player's representatives in the hopes of finalizing the transfer before the end of the month.

Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, have also shown interest, but according to The Times, Gundogan is now on the verge of committing his future to Manchester City. The report indicates that City has changed its stance on the midfielder's future and is now prepared to offer him a two-year contract with the option for an additional year. This development will be a significant boost for Guardiola, who has consistently expressed his desire to retain Gundogan. However, speculation surrounding the future of fellow midfielder Bernardo Silva continues to circulate.

The 28-year-old Portuguese player is reportedly eager to explore new opportunities as he enters the prime years of his career and has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the Etihad this summer. Barcelona is said to be one club interested in signing the playmaker, although they could face strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain, the giants of Ligue 1.

Since joining Manchester City from Monaco in 2017, Bernardo has scored 55 goals and provided 58 assists in 303 appearances across all competitions. His notable performance includes a brace in the 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final last Wednesday.
