The English football season has started with its usual opener, the FA Community Shield. This time, they changed the rules a bit to make the games shorter. Before, some players like Raphaël Varane didn't like this change, and now Kevin De Bruyne is sharing his thoughts too.

Something similar to what happened in the World Cup in Qatar is happening in English football too. Games that last more than 100 minutes might become normal, not rare. It might actually be strange to have games that are shorter.

They're trying to make games have more actual playing time and less stopping. They want to fix things like players wasting time or too many breaks. It's a good idea, but it's not working perfectly. Players who already have a lot of games to play don't really like this new rule.

In the first matches of the second-level league in England, games were about six minutes longer than last year's matches on average. Even the FA Community Shield match between Arsenal and Manchester City was longer.

Arsenal did something to help, they scored a goal in the 11th minute of the second half and eventually won in a penalty shootout. But even the Arsenal players aren't really happy with the new rule, according to Kevin De Bruyne, who plays for Manchester City.

Manchester United's defender, Raphaël Varane, was the first one to speak out against this rule in public, and now Kevin De Bruyne is doing the same thing.

We have spoken about it with Arsenal players and even with the referees. They don’t want to do it either, but it’s a new rule and that’s just the way it is,” The Guardian quoted the Belgian as saying after the game.

“If we play Sevilla in Greece in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday (August 16) and have 15 to 20 extra minutes and then have to go through the same thing at the weekend against Newcastle, it will be like double extra time. We’ll see how it goes, but it doesn’t make sense,” De Bruyne added.

Top players have been talking for a while about there being too many games. This can lead to more chances of getting hurt badly and feeling mentally stressed. It can also affect their performance, so everyone might have problems because of this rule.
