Núñez, who missed a crucial chance in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa last Wednesday, will be relieved that his mistake didn’t cost his team more ground in the title race.
The Uruguayan striker has only started seven Premier League games this season, and his recent performance against Villa raised concerns. Manager Arne Slot wasn’t pleased, not just with the miss but with Núñez’s reaction afterward.
“I can accept any miss, especially from a player who has scored important goals for us,” Slot said. “But what was harder to accept was his reaction. It got too much in his head, and he wasn’t the usual Darwin, working hard and helping the team.”
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are expected to sell Núñez this summer, with a move to the Saudi Pro League being a strong possibility.
