According to reports, Chelsea may not have the option to dismiss head coach Mauricio Pochettino before the conclusion of the current season. The Argentine signed a two-year contract in the summer, with the possibility of a third, aiming to lead Chelsea's revival in the 2023-24 season.

Despite reaching the EFL Cup final, Chelsea's performance in the Premier League has been inconsistent, currently placing them 11th in the standings. While there seemed to be a revival until last week, consecutive losses to Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers have dampened the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge.

After the 4-2 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, Pochettino acknowledged the possibility of being removed from his position. However, the Daily Mail reports that Chelsea's co-owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, might face limitations in taking action during the current season.

Behind the scenes, there are concerns that parting ways with Pochettino and his backroom staff would lead to a breach of Profit and Sustainability regulations. The speculated cost could exceed £10 million at a time when the club is already struggling to meet various criteria in the short term.

In an effort to address financial challenges, Chelsea had aimed to sell at least one academy graduate during the January transfer window, but their asking prices for players like Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, or Armando Broja were not met. While Broja has moved on loan to Fulham, whether a fee will be required depends on the forward's game time during the rest of the season.

Chelsea is reportedly in a position where player sales are necessary before the end of June to align with Premier League rules, similar to their approach last summer. Pochettino faces a challenging period to alleviate the pressure on his position, with upcoming away games against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Manchester City scheduled between February 7 and February 17.

The first of these matches is a fourth-round replay in the FA Cup, a competition Chelsea aims to win for European qualification next season.
