To survive, Cambuur needed a win and a miracle, but their fate was sealed with Sander van de Streek's 37th-minute header, followed by two goals from Anastasios Douvikas, who now has 16 top-flight goals this season. Douvikas nodded home in the 41st minute and scored from the penalty spot in the 64th minute to end Cambuur's two-year stay in the Eredivisie.
With only four games left, Cambuur can now only aim for 17th place and a maximum of 25 points. Cambuur, who were promoted to the Eredivisie in 2020-21 after a five-year spell in the Eerste Divisie, finished ninth last season but have only won four of their 31 games this term.
