Benjamin Mendy is reportedly pursuing a substantial compensation claim against his former team, Manchester City, for wages he alleges have not been paid. This legal action was disclosed by sports lawyer Nick De Marco KC.

In January, Mendy was acquitted of several charges related to sexual assault following a lengthy trial, and after a retrial in July cleared him of additional charges, he resumed his football career.

Back in 2021, Manchester City suspended Mendy when he faced charges, and upon the expiration of his contract in June, the club officially released him. Now, Mendy, who currently plays for Ligue 1 club Lorient, has taken the matter to the Employment Tribunal through a claim for unpaid wages. He is seeking the compensation for the period up to the conclusion of his contract with Manchester City on June 30, 2023.

"Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados, Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages," a statement read.

"Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal."

Mendy made the move from Monaco to Manchester City in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of £52 million, marking him as the most expensive defender in the Premier League at that time.

As the left-back in Pep Guardiola's squad, Mendy accumulated a total of 75 appearances across various competitions during his six-year stint at the Etihad Stadium. Throughout this period, he was reportedly earning around £100,000 per week.

His time with Manchester City was marked by success, as Mendy contributed to winning six trophies. Among these were three Premier League titles, two EFL Cups, and one Community Shield. Additionally, he achieved international success by winning the 2018 World Cup with the French national team while being a key player for Manchester City.
