In his first Bundesliga match as Bayern Munich's manager, Vincent Kompany led his team to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg, thanks to a late winner from Serge Gnabry.
Gnabry's decisive goal came in the 82nd minute when he was expertly played through by Harry Kane. His low shot struck the post before finding the back of the net, sealing the win for Bayern.
Bayern initially took the lead when Sacha Boey powered through the Wolfsburg defense and delivered a perfect pass to Jamal Musiala, who calmly finished from close range.
Despite multiple attempts, including several angled shots from Gnabry and a header from Kane, Wolfsburg's debutant goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, who was wearing a protective face mask, kept his team in contention throughout the first half.
However, just a minute into the second half, Boey fouled Tiago Tomas in the box, leading to a penalty for Wolfsburg. Lovro Majer stepped up and converted the spot-kick, placing the ball low into the bottom corner to level the score.
Wolfsburg then took the lead when Patrick Wimmer capitalized on a mistake by Kim Min-jae and set up Majer for his second goal of the match.
In response, Bayern introduced Thomas Muller as a second-half substitute, marking his record-breaking 474th Bundesliga appearance for the club, surpassing the legendary Sepp Maier. Muller's presence made an immediate impact, as Jakub Kaminski inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Muller, bringing Bayern back on level terms.
Gnabry's late strike ensured that Kompany's Bundesliga debut ended on a high note, giving Bayern Munich a winning start to their league campaign.
