Manchester City is reportedly set to enter a fierce battle with Liverpool to secure the talents of Bayern Munich's rising star, Jamal Musiala, in 2024. The young midfielder, who formerly represented England at the youth level but has since pledged his allegiance to Germany at the senior level, has emerged as a crucial player under Thomas Tuchel after a remarkable 2022-23 season.

Musiala's impressive performance last season, where he scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists in 47 games, including double figures in both categories in the Bundesliga, helped soften the impact of Robert Lewandowski's move to Barcelona.

In the current season, the 20-year-old has continued to shine, contributing one goal and three assists in his first nine games, notably setting up Leon Goretzka's goal in a 3-1 win over Mainz 05.

Having previously been part of the youth academies of Southampton and Chelsea, Musiala has already amassed an impressive tally of 32 goals and 26 assists in 134 games for Bayern Munich at such a young age. This has inevitably attracted the attention of European clubs outside of Bayern.

While Musiala's current contract with Bayern Munich is in place until the end of the 2025-26 season, his value has significantly increased since his last contract extension in the spring of 2021. Liverpool, who withdrew from the race to sign Jude Bellingham over the summer, is believed to be considering a move for the German international.

However, reports from Football Insider suggest that Liverpool will face tough competition from Manchester City, who are actively exploring the possibility of signing Musiala while closely monitoring any contract negotiations. Bayern Munich is reportedly in discussions about a new and improved deal for the young midfielder, who currently earns around £83,000 a week under his existing contract.

However, Musiala is allegedly not entirely satisfied with his situation at the Allianz Arena, as he is frustrated by his intermittent appearances in the starting lineup under Tuchel. Despite this, Bayern remains optimistic about securing his long-term commitment, even as Real Madrid keeps a close watch in the background.

Manchester City had bolstered its attacking options by acquiring Jeremy Doku from Rennes during the summer transfer window. They also reinforced their midfield with additions like Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic.

While they initially pursued Lucas Paqueta from West Ham United, they eventually signed Doku due to a suspicious betting investigation involving Paqueta. As a result, Julian Alvarez has excelled alongside Erling Haaland this season, boasting four goals and four assists in nine Premier League appearances.
