Having won the FA & Carabao Cups both at the expense of Chelsea, Liverpool chased Manchester City down to the very last day for the league crown, and for the second time in 4 seasons, lost it to City by a solitary point.
The disappointment of being pipped to the premier league crown by a single point preceded a heartbreaking defeat in the UCL final seven days later in the hands of another familiar foe, "Real Madrid".
So the dream of an unprecedented treble faded and ended with a Fantastic Double. An achievement worth celebrating since both domestic cups were the only missing piece of Klopp's jigsaw puzzle as Liverpool's manager.
By virtue of winning the domestic cups, Klopp finally completed the set of winning every available trophy as Liverpool's manager, cementing his status as one of the greatest coaches in Liverpool's glorious history.
The summer came with a mass exodus, as several key players in Liverpool's setup departed the team in search of new adventures. Notably Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, and Takumi Minamino who played very important roles in both of Liverpool's cup triumphs.
Since Klopp took over the reins at Anfield, the attack has been one of the most integral parts and having 3 senior attackers leave the team in one transfer window was surely going to affect the balance of the team.
With 3 games gone, and only two points gained from a possible nine, Liverpool are already far behind other title contenders. The team has been a shadow of itself, the hunger and appetite which Liverpool has been synonymous with since when Klopp took charge is missing, and several key players like Virgil Van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Mo'Salah, and Trent Alexander Arnold have also been below par so far with their performance levels.
Arguably, Liverpool started the new season with close to 10 senior players out with injuries, leaving the team thin and without enough squad depth. However, the displays have been far from convincing, and at this point its
only logical to ask if "Klopp Has Lost The PLOT"!
