Everton's negotiations with the Friedkin Group for a potential club takeover have been called off after both parties couldn't come to an agreement.

The Friedkin Group, which also owns the Italian club Roma, had initially agreed to take over Everton in June. They were given exclusive rights to negotiate after a previous deal with the Miami-based firm 777 Partners fell apart.

In a joint statement, the Friedkin Group and Everton's current owner, Blue Heaven Holdings, announced, "Both parties agree that it is in their best interests for Everton to explore other options."

Despite the end of the takeover talks, the Friedkin Group, which invested £200 million into Everton and cleared a £158 million loan to MSP Sports Capital and two local businessmen, will continue to act as a lender to the club.

Farhad Moshiri, who bought a 49.9% share in Everton in 2016, now owns 94% of the club through Blue Heaven Holdings, making him the majority owner.
