Porto's president, Pinto da Costa, has indicated that Mehdi Taremi is likely to leave next year due to the club's inability to match the lucrative salary offers he has received from other sources. The 31-year-old's future is currently a hot topic of speculation, with his contract at the Estadio do Dragao set to expire next summer.

There's a belief that Manchester United is contemplating a discounted offer for the Iranian international when the January transfer window opens, aiming to address their goal-scoring issues. However, recent reports suggest that Inter Milan is leading the race to secure his services.

According to Da Costa, the experienced striker has received contract offers amounting to €10m (£8.7m) per year, figures that the Portuguese club finds challenging, if not impossible, to match.

"He has received €10m (£8.7m) per year salary offers from other clubs... it's impossible to match that," Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano quotes the forward as saying.

AC Milan were heavily linked with the striker over the summer, but Da Costa has claimed that the proposals from the Serie A giants were "ridiculous".

"AC Milan came up last summer with ridiculous proposals that weren't even worth talking about," he added.

Taremi joined Porto from Rio Ave in 2020, and since then, he has played in 163 matches across all competitions for the club. During this time, he has contributed significantly, scoring 83 goals and providing 52 assists.

In the current season, the forward has showcased his skills with three goals and three assists in 16 appearances at the club level, including one goal and two assists in four Champions League outings.
