Reports suggest that Mauricio Pochettino, the incoming head coach of Chelsea, is eager for the club to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana during the summer transfer window.

Pochettino, who has reached an agreement to join Chelsea, is expected to finalize the deal and outline his plans for the upcoming 2023-24 campaign upon his arrival in England next week. Despite Chelsea's significant spending of over £600 million in the last two transfer windows, they are looking to streamline their squad this summer.

However, they are still willing to support Pochettino in the transfer market, with the goalkeeping department being one area likely to be reinforced. As either Edouard Mendy or Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to be sold, Chelsea is in search of a new number one goalkeeper.

Onana has emerged as a potential target, and according to The Mirror, Pochettino has given his approval for Chelsea to pursue a transfer for the Inter goalkeeper.

Securing the 27-year-old's services from the Italian giants may prove challenging as his contract is set to run until June 2027.

Chelsea, as per InterLive, is looking to convince Inter to part ways with Onana by offering a player in return. The Blues have previously suggested Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trevoh Chalobah, and Mendy as potential candidates for a swap deal, but those proposals were unsuccessful.

The latest report states that Chelsea has now proposed Mateo Kovacic, who had a two-year stint with Inter between 2013 and 2015, making 97 appearances for the club. Kovacic is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, which adds uncertainty to his future.

It remains to be seen whether Inter will be tempted to bring the Croatia international back to the club or retain their first-choice goalkeeper.

Onana has impressively kept eight clean sheets in 12 Champions League appearances this season, contributing to Inter's qualification for next month's final against Manchester City.
