Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Georgia's goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, from Valencia in a deal that could be worth up to £29 million. The 23-year-old will make the move to Anfield after the 2024-25 season, pending a work permit and international clearance. The deal includes a £25 million upfront fee, with an additional £4 million in potential add-ons.

For the current season, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia, where he has been the first-choice goalkeeper since joining the club in 2021. He has already made 102 appearances for the La Liga side and played in all of Georgia's matches at Euro 2024, where they were eventually eliminated by Spain in the round of 16.

Despite Alisson Becker remaining Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper and the club having Caoimhin Kelleher as a strong backup, new manager Arne Slot and the club's hierarchy saw an opportunity in securing Mamardashvili’s services for the future. With growing interest from other clubs, Liverpool acted swiftly to ensure they wouldn’t miss out on the talented goalkeeper in the next year or two.

Alisson, who has two years left on his contract with an option for an additional year, has been supportive of the move, recognizing the value Mamardashvili could bring to the team's future.
