On Wednesday night, Christophe Galtier's future at Paris Saint-Germain will be put on the line as they face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at the Allianz Arena. The Bavarians secured a 1-0 first-leg victory through a goal from former PSG player Kingsley Coman, mirroring their win over the French team in the 2019-20 final. Julian Nagelsmann's side is halfway towards revenge for their defeat to PSG in last season's quarter-finals, and they have not been eliminated from the competition after winning the first leg of a knockout tie since 2010-11.

Furthermore, Bayern have won 15 of their last 17 European games at home, including all three group-stage matches this season. PSG, on the other hand, have only progressed from one of their six knockout ties after losing the first leg. A 4-2 win over Nantes in Ligue 1 saw Kylian Mbappe become PSG's all-time leading scorer, but Galtier's future at the club could be in jeopardy if they fail to progress to the quarter-finals for the fifth time in seven seasons.

It's ALL Or Nothing For PSG

Although PSG's defense was still problematic, the French champions will remember their 4-2 triumph over Nantes in Ligue 1 last weekend as a historic moment. Kylian Mbappe, who was tied with Edinson Cavani at 200 goals for PSG prior to the game, scored the team's fourth and final goal late in the match, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer. Despite this achievement, there is no time for the 24-year-old to revel in his Parisian success while PSG's fate in Europe hangs in the balance.

With the possibility of being eliminated from the Champions League last 16 for the fifth time in seven seasons, PSG's head coach, Christophe Galtier, knows that his position is in danger. The capital giants have advanced from just one of their six Champions League knockout ties in which they lost the first leg. Although PSG managed to secure seven points from their three Champions League group-stage games on the road earlier this season, they have not kept a clean sheet away from home in Europe since October 2020, conceding goals in their last 12 games.

In the 12 previous meetings between Bayern and PSG, the German champions have won six times, while the French champions have also won six times. However, one manager will be unlucky in Wednesday's game, which could potentially be a make-or-break moment for Galtier's tenure in the Paris Saint-Germain hot seat.

INJURIES & SUSPENSIONS

Due to Pavard's late red card in the first leg, he will be suspended for this match, leaving Nagelsmann with a defensive dilemma as Lucas Hernandez continues his recovery from an ACL injury. If Nagelsmann decides to continue with a back three, Josip Stanisic may play alongside Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt, who all started in the win over Stuttgart. Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer and Noussair Mazraoui are still recovering from injuries.

Sadio Mane, who has been plagued by injuries, made an appearance off the bench in the game against Stuttgart. However, Nagelsmann has warned the former Liverpool player that he must compete for a starting spot, and he is likely to remain a substitute in this game as Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane compete to join Jamal Musiala in the attacking third.

In the PSG camp, manager Galtier has confirmed that Neymar will not be fit in time for the second leg, while Presnel Kimpembe (Achilles) and Renato Sanches (hamstring) are also injured. However, Marco Verratti will return from suspension and is expected to replace Warren Zaire-Emery, who will turn 17 on Wednesday, despite the teenager's impressive 57-minute cameo in the first leg.

PSG has faced further challenges over the past week, with charges of rape being brought against right-back Achraf Hakimi, which he denies. However, he is currently free to leave the country and should be available for selection as he recovers from a thigh injury.

POSSIBLE LINE-UPS

Bayern Munich's possible starting lineup:
Sommer; Stanisic, Upamecano, De Ligt; Coman, Kimmich, Goretzka, Davies; Sane, Musiala; Choupo-Moting

Paris Saint-Germain's possible starting lineup:
Donnarumma; Pereira, Marquinhos, Ramos; Hakimi, Ruiz, Verratti, Vitinha, Mendes; Messi, Mbappe

EXPERT PREDICTION

Bayern Munich 2-1 PSG ( Bayern to progress 3-1 on aggregate)
Despite the absence of Neymar, who has been a frequent victim of ankle injuries, the combination of Messi and Mbappe is expected to cause problems for the injury-plagued Bayern defense, making the second leg of the match on Wednesday highly anticipated.

While PSG is capable of breaking Bayern's impressive defensive record at home in Europe, they have shown vulnerabilities in their recent victories over Lille and Nantes. Bayern, who are equally ruthless, are likely to advance to the quarterfinals, extending PSG's European misfortunes.
